Further wintry showers and rain could fall in parts of Nottinghamshire today (Tuesday, January 7) with more than 50 flood warnings and alerts in place in and around the county. The Met Office has forecast sleet from noon on Tuesday before light rain showers from 1pm until 3pm.
The cold spell is expected to continue through much of this week with daytime temperatures struggling to get above 3C. There will also be sharp overnight frosts with temperatures down as low -4C in some spots.
The Met Office forecast for the East Midlands for Tuesday, January 7 reads: “A sunny start to the day for many, with a widespread frost. Cloudier skies in the west, with some wintry showers likely over the Derbyshire hills. Largely dry with sunny spells elsewhere. Breezy and staying cold. Maximum temperature 4 °C.”
The weather agency said any wintry showers will ease tonight and Wednesday is expected to be a “largely fine and dry day, with bright or sunny spells”. Temperatures are not expected to get any higher than 2C.
The Met Office outlook for Thursday, January 9 until Saturday, January 11 reads: “Staying dry with some decent spells of winter sunshine on Thursday. Staying cold, with widespread and locally severe frosts overnight. Turning cloudier from the west Friday and Saturday. Light winds.”
Somewhat milder conditions could be on the way by Monday, January 13 with temperatures of around 10C forecast. Temperatures are also expected to remain mild overnight, dipping no lower than 8C.
