Met Office issues new snow and ice warning for Cornwall as disruption expected

The Met Office has issued a third weather warning for Cornwall this week, as further disruption is expected. Another yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued, with most of the county affected.

The weather warning, in place from 3am until midday tomorrow (Thursday, January 8) and warns of snow and ice across Cornwall. Forecasts expect disruption to travel, with roads and railways affected. There is a likelihood of icy patches on paths, pavements and untreated roads, which may lead to risk of injury.

Sleet and rain showers are forecast at low levels near the coast, with snow on higher ground. A number of locations across Cornwall will be freezing, with the minimum temperature dropping to -5°C tonight.

Some areas will see a “few cm of snow” fall this evening and early tomorrow too. Devon and Cornwall Police has issued a warning to motorists after a string of crashes in the region, warning to only travel when necessary.

Earlier in the week, during Monday’s weather warning for ice and snow, the force said: “We are responding to several collisions in the Force area due to heavy snow and icy conditions. The # A30 is particularly affected by snow between # Bodmin and #Okehampton, along with some roads on #Dartmoor. Please stay safe and do not travel unless absolutely necessary.”
