Met Office issues 18-hour AMBER snow and ice warning for Stoke-on-Trent

Meteorologists have today issued an amber weather warning for Stoke-on-Trent as a wintry blast takes aim at the Potteries. The latest alert means there are now three for North Staffordshire – with the first kicking in later today.

However forecasters have ramped up the warning to cover Saturday evening through to Sunday afternoon when heavy snow is forecast for Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. It represents another alert in place for a shivering Potteries where families again woke to freezing conditions this morning.

The Met Office currently has a yellow warning for ice for Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle, and the Moorlands which will come in at 4pm today and run until 10am in the morning. A yellow alert for snow and ice will then come in at noon on Saturday and go to 11.59pm on Sunday, while the amber snow and ice warning runs from tomorrow at 6pm until noon on the Sunday.

Just over the border in Derbyshire and there’s now an amber warning for snow covering part of the A53 into Buxton, which will run until 9pm on Saturday until 11.59pm the following day.

Weather warnings all across the UK

As reported by StokeonTrentLive the current Met Office forecast is predicting light snow in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle from 8pm tomorrow (January 4) before turning heavier around 10pm and lasting until the early hours – before heavy rain on Sunday.

But in an around Leek that heavy snow will continue through to around 6am on Sunday morning. Temperatures will drop to 0C – but will feel more like -6C. In addition to the weather warnings there is also an amber cold-health alert in place until noon on January 8.
