The entire county will be under a weather warning from 5pm on Saturday 4 January 2025 with eleven set to be under an Orange warning.
Heavy rains and then snow are expected across Ireland with a Yellow Weather Warning in place for all counties in the Republic and an Orange warning in place for counties Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary.
Met Eireann had warned of the coming snowstorm with an Yellow Warning previously in place before the warning was upgraded.
Met Eireann urged caution as temperatures are expected to dip as low as -10C in some areas: “Status Orange – Rain and Snow warning for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary – Met Éireann Weather Warning. Heavy rain transitioning to sleet and snow with significant accumulations expected.”

• Poor visibility
• Travel disruption delays to public transport likely (air, rail, bus)
• Difficult conditions underfoot
• Animal welfare issues

Carlow Weather wrote to social media: “The forecast temperatures for Wednesday afternoon are not something we see too often for Ireland with -6c at 3pm! The issue is fog is forecast and that freezing fog could keep temperatures very cold right through Wednesday.”
And, a second significant weather event has been forecast by experts ahead of the weekend as the snowstorm deepens across the UK and Ireland over the next few days.
Met Eireann have issued an update on their warnings over the latest snow forecast as temperatures are set to plunge over the weekend with snow, ice and frost on the cards.
It comes as a warning over snow to ice is forecast by weather experts off Ireland in parts pf England, with a possible flood risk. The ‘significant’ event is likely to see 5-10cm of snow before quickly melting across the northern and midlands areas of England.
MetWatchUK issued the update on Friday which read: “A significant UK snow event this Sunday is likely as a low pressure system moves into the cold air over the UK.
“A snow to rain event likely for the Midlands, 5-10cm before quickly melting (flood risk). Northern England may see the highest totals of over 30cm in higher towns.”
It comes as a status red snow warning was issued by a leading Irish forecaster with up to 12 inches in parts of the country.
