Mist is slowly clearing across Cork this morning after a night of dense, thick fog causing some issues overnight. It’s been a wild week of weather, from warnings over snow, plummeting temperatures and most recently a 15-hour alert for fog.
But the Status Yellow fog is to lift by around 9am, leaving a day of mostly clouds and some drizzle but much, much milder than the previous few days of freezing temperatures. We can expect conditions around the low teens this week as we move into mid-January.
Overall however, while Met Eireann forecasters have signalled it is to stay mild, weather experts expect “the best of the dry weather over the eastern half of the country,” leaving Cork to face drizzle and damp.
Here’s the latest:
Today, as southerly winds freshen, it will be a mostly cloudy day with patchy rain and drizzle moving in from the west. More persistent rain will develop this afternoon and evening. Maximum afternoon temperatures will range from 9 to 11 degrees.
It will be breezy tonight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Becoming milder with temperatures overnight falling no lower than 9 to 11 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty south to southwest winds.

It looks set to be generally cloudy with a few patches of mist and drizzle on Tuesday. However, there will be plenty of dry weather overall and a few sunny interludes are likely to develop at times. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in fresh south to southwest winds. Mostly dry on Tuesday night with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate southerly breezes.
A mix of cloud and sunny spells on Wednesday. It is expected to be predominantly dry but a few showers are possible.
