After over a week of freezing cold conditions with snow and ice causing chaos around Cork, the weather has taken a U-turn bringing the return of rain, grey skies and much milder conditions.
While yesterday was wet and cold, the weekend brings much more noticeably milder temperatures as “a southerly airflow becomes established over the country.” In a major change, temperatures early next week are expected to climb up into the teens – practically balmy compared to the -7 degrees that had us shivering on Tuesday.
But we’re in for rain too, with drizzle expected nearly every day for the next while.
And weather expert Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said that during the thaw after the Big Freeze cold snap, it will still feel rather chilly.
He said: “While temperatures will rise over the next few days with a thaw the windchill forecast for tomorrow and Sunday shows it will still be feeling cool. Don’t put away the wooly hat just yet.”
