Met Eireann have forecast a significant temperature spike for Ireland as an El Nino weather event is set to sweep in.
According to the latest forecast, Ireland is set to see better weather coming this year after a period of turbulent and stormy conditions.
Weather experts have predicted the appearance of the El Nino weather event in long range predictions, with the effects potentially meaning milder conditions in Europe.
Severe Weather EU said in an update: “La Niña boosts the current cold weather over the United States, but an El Niño event is now starting to appear in the long-range predictions.”
How UK and Western European temperatures respond to El Niño is complicated and uncertain . It could mean colder than average winters, for example, but that depends how El Niño unfolds . During El Niño events, the warmer water pushes the Pacific jet stream’s strong air currents further to the south and the east.
It comes as meteorologists have indicated that a period of unsettled weather could be returning to Ireland just weeks after a major cold snap.
Whilst experts are predicting milder conditions for the next 10 days there is the potential for a return of snow and sub-zero temperatures towards the end of next week.
An enormous Arctic storm is currently tracking towards Ireland, according to new weather maps published by weather app, Ventusky.
