Meghan Markle blunder sparks wild claims she’s ‘divorced’ Prince Harry

Meghan Markle’s followers have noticed an unfortunate error with her new social media page, which they claim unintentionally suggests she has split from Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex has made a return to the limelight with her own Instagram account, amassing more than 600,000 followers at the time of reporting. She re-emerged under the straightforward handle ‘meghan’, accompanied by a single post – a video reel.

While the account is yet to receive official verification via a blue tick, it’s widely accepted as genuine. Further supporting its authenticity, the New Year’s Day video shared by Meghan was filmed by her spouse Harry, indicating that their relationship remains strong.

However, this didn’t prevent keen observers of royal protocol from noticing Meghan’s use of a title typically reserved for royal divorcees.

The video features the royal and former actress jogging along the beach before inscribing ‘2025’ in the damp sand. The footage, reportedly captured by Prince Harry, comes amid speculation about their relationship status following months of separate engagements, reports the Mirror.

Following Meghan’s social media comeback, fans noted that her profile initially only displayed her first name before being updated to ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’.

Speculation around the marital status of Meghan emerged on X/ Twitter when a royal fan page pointed out an update to her Instagram profile name. The page shared screenshots showing a change from “Meghan” to “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,” prompting commentary about the missing “The” in her title.

They highlighted: “Meghan’s Instagram has already had an update, changing her name in the profile from ‘Meghan’ to ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’.

“Hopefully we will see another update, as she left out the “The” in her title. No “The” before Duchess of Sussex means she is a divorcee.”

They drew comparison with Prince Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who brands herself Duchess of York, to illustrate that a divorced woman would not use “The” before her title. They added: “Meghan’s title is “Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.

“She has “The” as she is the spouse of the current title holder. Sarah has no “The” as a divorcee.”

Considering Harry himself filmed the video for Meghan’s return to Instagram, it’s unlikely this change suggests any shift in Meghan and Prince Harry’s relationship. Harry previously dismissed such rumours with a sense of pity for those spreading them, stating that he feels ‘genuinely’ sorry for the trolls whose “hopes are just built and built, and it doesn’t happen”.

In the latest display of their strong bond, Meghan reactivated her Instagram account by sharing a festive post. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spread holiday joy with their 2024 Christmas card, which included an endearing family photograph.

Their card featured previously unseen pictures of their children, Archie, aged 5, and Lilibet, aged 3. One of the six images in the greeting shows the children from behind, eagerly running towards their parents.

The card portrays Meghan smiling at Archie while Harry welcomes Lili, reinforcing his recent comments about her long, red hair – identical to her older brother’s. “On behalf of the office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation,” reads the message on the card.
