Map shows cold snap heading for Surrey as health alert issued

2025 is bringing with it some much colder weather. Throughout the first week of January, the temperature is expected to drop leaving conditions near freezing.

The Met Office is predicting that by Thursday (January 2) the whole of the UK will likely experience a change to colder weather. However, unlike the up north, Surrey is unlikely to see any snow.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Rebekah Hicks said: “There is still some uncertainty in the forecast at present, and with such varied and potentially fast-moving weather conditions, it is important for people to keep up to date with the very latest details.”

People in Guildford, Haslemere and Oxted are not forecast to feel warmer than freezing across Thursday (January 2) and Friday (January 3), and temperatures will remain low into the weekend.

Take a look at the interactive map below to see when and where temperatures may drop.

The cold temperatures mean that the UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow alert. This means there is potentially a greater risk to the life of vulnerable people as well as increased use of healthcare services.

Some of the coldest temperatures will come on Friday (January 3) when temperatures will not peak above 0C until midday. It will be a chilly start for commuters as temperatures feel like -7C at 6am.

Looking forward to the second week of January is expected to be fairly varied. Temperatures are more likely to be below normal than above, but day to day variation is likely.
