Man seen on roof in ‘nerve-wracking’ Coventry Villa Road ‘standoff’

Police have swarmed a residential Coventry street following reports of a man ‘on the roof of a property.’ Officers cordoned off Villa Road at the junction with Radford Road this morning (Friday, January 3).

Paramedics and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) rushed to the scene at 11.25am. Crews from West Midlands Fire Service were dispatched just minutes earlier at 11.23am.

Concerns had been raised for the welfare of a man on Villa Road. He was seen on top of the roof of a property earlier today (January 3).

Motorists are being urged to avoid Villa Road this afternoon (January 3). Traffic is currently being diverted via Bulwer Road.

Drones are currently being used to monitor the incident, which has yet to be safely resolved. A woman who lives on Villa Road told CoventryLive that the situation was’ nerve-wracking.’

In a statement issued today (January 3), West Midlands Police said: “We are currently at an address on Villa Road in Coventry after concerns for the welfare of a man.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: “We currently have a paramedic officer and members of the Hazardous Area Response Team at an incident on Villa Road in Coventry following a call at 11.25am.”
