Man glassed inside bar – before suspects attacked moments later

A punter was hit with a glass at a Greater Manchester bar – before the culprits were themselves attacked moments later. Officers descended on Market Street in Royton, Oldham, in the early hours of Sunday morning (December 29).

It followed an incident at the Bono bar. Greater Manchester Police says a man suffered minor injuries after being hit with a glass at around 1.10am.

Moments later, the suspects were then attacked by someone else. The Manchester Evening News understands that one of the men suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries in the second attack.

Two men, aged in their 20s, were both arrested in connection with the first incident involving a glass. Both suspects have since been bailed.

It’s understood that the suspects for the second assault are unknown, and no arrests have been made so far in connection with that incident. A GMP spokesperson said: “Our investigation is ongoing.”

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large emergency services presence outside Bono at the time, with several police cars and ambulances in attendance. Video footage, shared by Bono on Facebook, showed a large queue of punters waiting in line to enter the premises on Saturday night.

Bono opened on Market Street back in September. The bar was approached for comment.
