Man found with ‘unexplained’ injuries in New Year’s Day emergency

A man was airlifted to hospital with serious and “unexplained” injuries following an incident at a property in Gwynedd. On New Year’s Day, emergency services including police, paramedics, and a coastguard helicopter were sent to Porthmadog town centre.

North Wales Police have confirmed that the injured man was taken to a Liverpool hospital for treatment. A spokesperson said: “Police remain in attendance to a property in Porthmadog, where a man has sustained unexplained injuries.”

They added: “Officers patrolling the High Street shortly before 5.45pm on Wednesday, January 1st stopped to assist ambulance staff who had been called to a property in the area. A man was flown to Aintree hospital with serious injuries where he continues to receive treatment.”

Detective Inspector Trystan Davies stated: “The circumstances that led to this man sustaining injuries are currently unclear and our enquiries remain ongoing. However, this is understood to be an isolated incident and I have no wider concerns for the community.”

HM Coastguard also confirmed their involvement, stating: “HM Coastguard assisted the Welsh Ambulance Service respond to a report made at about 6.10pm on 1 January of a man with head injuries at Porthmadog”, reports North Wales Live.
