Man fights for life after Moseley hit-and-run crash

A pedestrian was fighting for his life after he was struck at a busy junction in Birmingham. The man was hit by a light-coloured, possibly silver, car as he crossed St Mary’s Row, at the junction with Alcester Road, in Moseley at around 4.45pm on Monday, January 13.

He was helped by members of the public and taken into a nearby pub before being taken to hospital. His injuries were initially thought to be serious but his conditioned worsened in the last 48 hours and West Midlands Police said he was now critically ill.

The force said the driver of the car initially stopped at the scene but then left, possibly heading down Salisbury Road. It appealed to the driver to contact them and to anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, from the force’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “This collision happened in the early evening at a busy junction and I believe there will have been a number of people and cars in the area.

“I would appeal for anyone who hasn’t spoken to us to please get in touch. I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has CCTV or dashcam of the incident.

“I would also appeal directly to the driver of the car involved to do the right thing and contact myself or my team. It is possible that you did not believe the pedestrian was as seriously injured as he is, but it is important that we get your account and the answers for all those involved.

“If you have any information no matter how small please do not assume we know the information you have.”
