Man arrested at the scene of sudden death in Derry

A man was arrested at the scene of a sudden death in Derry city on Friday evening, the PSNI has confirmed.

A police spokesperson said officers responded to a report of a sudden death in the Carnhill area of the city on Friday at around 5.40pm.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of supplying a Class A drug.

A post mortem is due to be carried out but police are not treating the death as suspicious.

In a statement. a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police responded to a report of the sudden death of a man in the Carnhill area of Derry at approximately 5.40pm yesterday (Friday, December 27).

“One man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of supplying a class A drug.”

The spokesperson added: “He has since been released on bail to allow for further enquiries to be carried out. A post-mortem is to be carried out in due course however at this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
