Man arrested after Cornwall residents ‘scared’ to walk alone

A man has been arrested and charged following reports of residents claiming they were too scared to walk alone in St Ives. Police posted on social media to launch a public appeal for witnesses following alleged incidents concerning the man.

Hayle and St Ives Police said in an appeal: “The Police are appealing for witnesses in the St Ives area following incidents concerning a male causing issues of possible criminal damage and other offences.

“Can we ask that people who have been affected to call 101 to report the crimes or use the following link. If an incident is happening at the time please call 999 for assistance.”

Now, the local police force has issued an update. It said: “St Ives Neighbourhood Team have arrested a male on Thursday following concerns raised by members of the public over the last few days.

“Damian Collins of Higher Stennack, St Ives, has been charged with Criminal Damage to a Motor Vehicle, Public order, several shopliftings and Breach of Bail. He was remanded to Bodmin Magistrates Court to appear on Friday morning and we await the result of that appearance.”
