Man and teenager arrested after house targeted by arsonists on New Year’s Eve

A man and a teenager have been arrested after a house was shot at and targeted twice by arsonists within weeks. In the first incident, a car was set alight on Albert Road in Stechford just before 10pm on Sunday (December 29).

On New Year’s Eve, assailants tried to start a fire at a property, causing damage. On December 7, and investigation was launched after shots were fired at the house.

Fortunately, no one has been injured in any of the attacks. West Midlands Police said the pair were arrested on Wednesday (Jan 1) on suspicion of arson and remain in custody.

Police are examining if the cases are linked and are combing CCTV. A statement from the force said: “A man and a teenage boy have been arrested by officers investigating a number of arson attacks on Albert Road in Stechford. The pair were held yesterday on suspicion of arson.

“They remain in custody today. We were called to Albert Road just before 10pm on Sunday after a car had been set alight.

“And on New Year’s Eve, a property was damaged when someone attempted to set it alight. The fire was extinguished before significant damage was caused.

“We are exploring links between the two attacks and an earlier incident where shots were fired at a property on Albert Road early on 7 December. Fortunately, nobody has been injured in any of the incidents.

“Enquiries are ongoing and CCTV in and around the area is being reviewed. We know how concerning these incidents will have been in the community and are determined to find out who was involved.

“We’ll have extra officers in the area to provide reassurance over the coming days. We’re keen to hear from anyone with information.
