Man, 46, in police custody following Christmas Day burglary in Hull

A man is in police custody following a Christmas Day burglary in Hull.

Officers were called to Newstead Street on Wednesday following reports that a resident had returned home to find that their door was damaged and entry gained into their property, as well as a number of items of value stolen.

Christmas presents, fishing equipment, two high-value jackets and a television are believed to have been taken.

Police began conducting lines of enquiry including house to house and reviewing CCTV and doorbell footage. Today (New Year’s Eve), the eagle-eyed resident who made the report spotted a man wearing belongings they had reported as stolen.

Officers were deployed to the area and a 46-year-old man was arrested at a property on Newstead Street on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle.

Whilst searching the property, officers are thought to have recovered what are believed to be a number of stolen items from homes in the surrounding areas.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Lucy Keevan of Humberside Police said: “Officers continue to conduct lines of enquiry surrounding this report and other incidents whilst reviewing those items recovered. The man remains in our custody assisting officers with lines of enquiry.

“If anyone has any information, CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist with our investigation, please call us on 101 quoting log 67 of 31 December or report via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
