Man, 37, in court after ‘attempted abduction of toddler in Wolverhampton’

A man accused of attempting to abduct a toddler in the Midlands has appeared in court. Police were alerted after reports that an attempt was made to abduct a three-year-old girl in Leicester Street, Wolverhampton.

Richard Stacey was later charged by police in connection with the alleged incident, which took place on Thursday, January 9. The 37-year-old today (Monday, January 13) appeared at Walsall Magistrates’ Court.

He did not enter any pleas to the charges of attempted child abduction, assault and affray. District Judge Michael Wheeler said a further hearing will take place at Wolverhampton Crown Court next month.

Stacey, of Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, was remanded in custody. A West Midlands Police spokesperson previously said: “We have charged a man for the attempted abduction of a three-year-old girl in Leicester Street, Wolverhampton on Thursday, January 9.

“Richard Stacey, 37, has been charged with attempted child abduction, assault, and affray. “The 37-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear at Walsall Magistrates Court on Monday.

“Thankfully, the child was not injured and we’re continuing to offer support to her and her family.”
