A man was flown to hospital after being found with serious and “unexplained” injuries at a property in Gwynedd. A major emergency response was spotted in Porthmadog town centre on New Year’s Day, with police, paramedics and a coastguard helicopter called to the scene.
North Wales Police have now confirmed a man was flown to hospital in Liverpool after being found injured at a property. A spokesperson said: “Police remain in attendance to a property in Porthmadog, where a man has sustained unexplained injuries.
“Officers patrolling the High Street shortly before 5.45pm on Wednesday, January 1st stopped to assist ambulance staff who had been called to a property in the area. A man was flown to Aintree hospital with serious injuries where he continues to receive treatment.”
Detective Inspector Trystan Davies said: “The circumstances that led to this man sustaining injuries are currently unclear and our enquiries remain ongoing. However, this is understood to be an isolated incident and I have no wider concerns for the community.
“Anyone with information in relation to the incident is asked to contact officers on 101, or to make a report via the website, using reference number 25000003822.” A spokesperson for HM Coastguard added: “HM Coastguard assisted the Welsh Ambulance Service respond to a report made at about 6.10pm on 1 January of a man with head injuries at Porthmadog.
“The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Caernarfon flew the man to Crosby for onward transfer by ambulance to hospital. Criccieth and Crosby Coastguard Rescue Teams assisted.” The Welsh Ambulance Service were approached for comment.
