Luxury charcoal-fire restaurant amongst Greater Manchester venues nominated at top Kebab awards

A number of restaurants and takeaways across Greater Manchester have been nominated at a top awards ceremony dubbed the ‘Kebab Oscars’.

Twelve venues in the city-borough have been shortlisted at the British Kebab Awards 2025, which will be held on February 26 in London. A panel of 24 judges will determine the winners of awards like Best Greek Restaurant, Best Newcomer and Best Fine Dining Restaurant.

Having opened in May 2024, Ottoman is one of two Greater Manchester spots to be nominated in the regional best newcomer category. Located on Quay Street in Salford, the luxurious bar and grill serves up traditional Turkish cuisine, like chicken kofta and shish kebabs.

The restaurant is a sister site to the Lancashire restaurant of the same name, which has been running in Chorley since 2020 and is known for its charcoal-fired cuisine. Owner Ugur Ansin previously told the M.E.N that the concept came about because he struggled to find a decent place to find authentic Turkish dishes.

Also nominated in the newcomer category is Turkish Bistro, located in Poynton in Stockport. The Fountain Place establishment received a Travelers’ Choice award by TripAdvisor in 2024 and currently has more than four and a half stars based on reviews on the platform. One recent reviewer described their food as a ‘feast for all’, whilst another hailed their ‘lovely’ meal with ‘very good service’.

Amongst the nominated venues for Best Kebab Restaurant (Regional) are two spots in Cheadle. Istanbul Grill, on Gatley Road, and Naan Grill, on Church Road, will compete against eateries in the likes of Southampton, Milton Keynes, Hull, Portsmouth and Liverpool for the title.

My Greek Street Food, on Liverpool Road in Eccles, received a nomination for Best Greek Restaurant/Takeaway. One TripAdvisor reviewer said their recent visit ‘offered it all’, with ‘plentiful and tasty’ food. Another said ‘nothing touches this spot’ when it comes to Greek food.

Kebabalicious, on Hollyhedge Road in Wythenshawe, was nominated for Best Regional Takeaway. A previous winner at the British Kebab Awards back in 2015 for Best Delivery, the takeaway has also received nominations over the years at the British Takeaway Awards for its selection of curries, kebabs, and Tandoori delights.

In the Best Value Restaurant category, both Blossom Bistro by La Turka, based on Monton Road, and Olive & Thyme in Chorlton received recognition. The Barlow Moor Road cafe and bar focus on healthy and fresh home-style cooking with a menu featuring the likes of lamb and chicken shish kebabs, alongside kofte, moussaka, and steak.
