Long Eaton live updates as 3 people taken to hospital after exposure to ‘excess chlorine’ at spa

Three people have been taken to hospital after they were exposed to ‘excess chlorine’ at a spa in Long Eaton. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said 27 people had been exposed to the excess chlorine and that 10 people were showing symptoms.

Three people have since been taken to hospital – and the fire service said that none of the symptoms were thought to be serious.

Reports on social media suggest a heavy presence of the emergency services near the Cliffords Health Club & Spa in Regent Street, though the exact location of the business was not confirmed by the fire service.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said: “We were called at 10.27am this morning at a commercial property involving a swimming pool on Regent Street, Long Eaton. 27 people have been exposed to excess chlorine in the spa area of the building.

“Ten of those were showing symptoms relating to the exposure, 3 have been taken to hospital, and none of the symptoms are serious.

“Health and safety executives have been informed, and we remain on scene.” Crews from the Long Eaton and Stockhill fire stations were called to the scene, along with police and ambulance crews.
