London man denies murder of Shane Sweet

A man accused the murder of Plymouth dad Shane Sweet has denied the charge – but admitted he was in possession of a knife.

Tahla Redwan, aged 20 and of no fixed abode, but from London, appeared at Plymouth Crown Court this morning where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder of Mr Sweet on the afternoon of November 4 in Cambridge Road, Ford.

Mr Sweet suffered fatal stab wounds and passed away at the scene, despite the best efforts of police and paramedics who attended the location.

Redwan pleaded guilty to the additional charge of of possession of a bladed article in a public place, namely Cambridge Road.

An inquest has been held into the death of 36-year-old Mr Sweet, noting that he was a window cleaner and resided at an address in Newcastle Gardens, Whitleigh. During the short hearing the medical cause of death was given as a stab wound to the heart.

Redwan was arrested on the evening of November 7 at a location in Stratford, London, by officers from Devon and Cornwall Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, working with officers from the Metropolitan Police.

Judge Robert Linford remanded Redwan into custody ahead of a trial date listed for May 27. Judge Linford confirmed there would be pre-trial hearing on April 28 and the trial was estimated to take nine days.
