Live weather updates as snow falls in North Staffordshire

Snow is falling in parts of North Staffordshire this morning as forecasters predict widespread wintry conditions this weekend. There are currently light flurries in the Moorlands – specifically around Thorncliffe, on the outskirts, of Leek along with nearby villages off the A53.

It comes as a snow and ice warning is set to come in for Stoke-on-Trent this weekend. Meanwhile this morning has been another freezing start for families while today temperatures will only reach 4C – but it won’t feel any ‘warmer’ than 1C.

In what is proving to be an ever-changing forecast and parts of the city and the Moorlands could see some sleet this morning. But more light snow is being forecast for villages around Flash and the Roaches – where it feels like -5C this morning.

The latest Met Office forecast for the Potteries today is light rain between 10am into the afternoon while Leek is expected to see sleet up to around 11am and then light rain in the afternoon. There will also be spells of light rain in Newcastle between noon and 2pm.

As it stands forecasters reckon snow will fall in Stoke-on-Trent from 8pm tomorrow – which could turn heavy from 11pm and last through to the early hours of Sunday when it will be replaced by heavy rain. It’s the same for Newcastle, while Leek could see heavy snow lasting until 3am on Sunday – before a day of heavy rain.

A yellow warning for snow and ice is set to come in at noon on Saturday – and that will last until 11.59pm on Sunday. In addition the county, along with the rest of England, is under an amber cold-health alert.
