Live weather and traffic updates as Merseyside hit by more snow

There is more disruption expected on the roads today after more snow hit Merseyside overnight. The region is under a yellow Met Office weather warning for snow and ice until 10am today.

The Met Office says: “Icy stretches are expected to develop due to ongoing wet surfaces following earlier rain and, in places, snowmelt. Frequent sleet or snow showers are also expected to affect Wales and parts of northwest and southwest England moving into the Midlands and parts of southern England during the rest of the night.

“These are likely to produce snow accumulations of 2-4 cm in places, chiefly above 200 metres, but also possibly at low levels under heavier and more persistent shower bands over North Wales, northwest England and into the Peak District, where a few places above 300 m could see 5-10 cm of snow accumulating.”

Merseyrail has confirmed a number of trains have been cancelled this morning.
