Live weather and Liverpool match traffic updates as temperatures drop again

Merseyside has woken to treacherous weather conditions again this morning as temperatures have plunged below freezing. It comes after a week of icy conditions and snow across the region.

The Met Office issued several weather warnings for snow and ice across Merseyside this week which caused disruption to roads, schools, train services and flights. This came after a rare amber warning was in place for much of last weekend after heavy snowfall and icy conditions.

Icy conditions haven’t stopped there; however, according to the Met Office, temperatures dropped to -3C during the night, with freezing fog expected to linger throughout today (Saturday). It said: “On Saturday, it will be dry with some sunny spells, although freezing fog and low cloud may linger in rural parts.”

Forecasters also said it will still be rather cold with light winds and icy patches forming into the evening. Maximum temperature 3C. The icy conditions are likely to cause more disruption to travel services today as thousands of people are expected to make their way to Anfield as Liverpool FC plays Accrington Stanley, with a 12.15pm kick-off.
