Live updates as efforts continue to rescue ‘crying Tesco Kidgsrove cat’

Animal rescuers are trying to get hold of a ‘crying’ black cat that has been residing on the Tesco car park in Kidsgrove. Alsager Animals In Need have made “several” attempts to rescue the moggy since Christmas but to no avail.

They said a trap is needed to lure the cat into their care, but because shoppers continue to feed him it’s not working. The rescue service is urging people not to feed the cat.

They have have a designated person who leaves him food if a rescue is unsuccessful. The rescue service said they “really need him really hungry” in order to go into the trap.

It added earlier this week: “We were made aware of the TESCO KIDSGROVE BLACK CAT before Christmas and have attempted to scan several times with no luck. It’s definitely a cat trap job and with receiving further messages tonight asking for help with the cat crying pitifully in such cold temperatures, we have attended and been here for the last two hours attempting to trap.

“Due to many other parties being involved and the cat being fed by others, this makes trapping a more difficult job once fed, as we need them really hungry to go in the trap.”

This isn’t the first time the Tesco in Kidsgrove has been home to a cat. A limping moggy called Winston became a cult hero among shoppers. He sadly died before Christmas in 2023, aged 20.
