Live Thursday school closures as temperatures plummet in North Staffordshire

Families are again waking up to freezing temperatures across North Staffordshire as the winter blast continues. This week’s snowfall – which has been frozen – has already seen some schools forced to stay shut since Monday.

Yesterday and leaders reported ‘dangerous conditions’ around some schools after the big freeze hit roads and pavements. Today (January 9) and families are waiting to find out if their schools have been able to get back open.

Two Stoke-on-Trent schools announced yesterday that they would stay shut today (January 9). The Crescent Academy in Meir confirmed in a Facebook post yesterday that it would not be open on Thursday despite ‘the exceptional efforts from the Crescent team and indeed some parents’ who battled to get the site defrosted.

Images shared by the school show the icy conditions on the road and pavement outside the Pinewood Crescent primary. Elsewhere in Meir, and as reported by StokeonTrentLive Sandon Primary Academy will also be shut today for the ‘safety of students, staff and visitors’.

We will bring you the details of any further school closures in our dedicated blog below.
