Live: Snow updates as Met Office issues 14-hour warning

Cornwall is set for another round of icy weather, with snow set to arrive in the South West later today. Weather forecasters predict up to 10cm of snow could fall over high ground across the region, with the potential to leave rural communities cut off.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for much of the South West, from 9am to 11.59pm, warning of potential power cuts and hazardous driving conditions that may leave some motorists stranded. Snow is predicted to arrive in Cornwall – amid very heavy rainfall – from around 1pm today (Wednesday, January 8).

“Whilst not all areas may be affected, outbreaks of snow may push in from the southwest during Wednesday, potentially giving some significant accumulations in places,” the Met Office said.

“Two to five cm of snow could accumulate fairly widely, and as much as 10 cm over higher ground, especially over east or northeast-facing slopes. ” Coastal areas are more likely to experience rain or sleet. As the weather system clears eastwards and skies clear on Wednesday night, untreated surfaces may become icy.”
