Temperatures have plummeted across Greater Manchester – leaving difficult conditions on the region’s roads. Wintry weather has hit the area in recent days.
Heavy snow came just days after the New Year’s floods, before temperatures dropped this week. Drivers and pedestrians are facing tricky conditions again this morning (January 8).
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) says there are severe delays on the Airport, Rochdale and Didsbury Metrolink lines this morning due to ice on the overhead lines. The M66 entry slip road at junction one for Ramsbottom is currently closed following a collision.
A yellow Met Office weather warning for ice is in force across the region until midday. Both the A555 Manchester Airport relief road and the A57 Snake Pass are closed.
Other smaller roads are also shut after a week of adverse weather, while many other roads are affected by icy surfaces. Some areas will also see patches of fog this morning, according to the Met Office.
Prior to this morning, a TfGM spokesperson said: “Following wintry showers earlier, icy conditions are likely to develop overnight. This may cause travel disruption, so please plan ahead.”
