Flooding remains a risk in parts of Gloucestershire with a number of red alerts in place as rivers continue to rise after heavy rainfall in the recent wet weather. A number of roads also remain closed today (Tuesday, January 7).
The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for stretches of the Severn in Gloucestershire, the Avon in Worcestershire and the Wye in Herefordshire. People in the affected areas have been urged to move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety.
River levels are set to remain high for the next few days. People have been warned not to risk driving through flood waters.
Across England, there are also 198 flood warnings, meaning flooding is expected, and 300 flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible. Commuters suffered travel misery on Monday, with major roads closed and railway lines blocked.
Firefighters in Leicestershire rescued 59 people, while the body of a man was recovered from an area of flooding in North Yorkshire. Hundreds of schools were closed across the country, in areas including Lancashire, Yorkshire and north-east Scotland.
There is also a severe weather warning in place for snow and ice until 10am. Flights have also been suspended at Bristol Airport.
