Liam Boyce to Derry City confirmed as Candystripes boss hails ‘international class’

Derry City have confirmed the signing of Northern Ireland international Liam Boyce. The 33-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal with the Candystripes after securing a move from Hearts.

Speculation had been mounting over the future of the former Cliftonville hit-man, who has been with Hearts since 2020.

Boyce has also featured for clubs including Werder Bremen, Ross County and Burton Albion, and won 28 caps for Northern Ireland.

Now he is preparing for the next stage in his career with League of Ireland outfit Derry City. He becomes the latest addition for new manager Tiernan Lynch who joined the club from Larne last month.

Lynch told Derry’s website: “It’s great to get another International footballer into the club and we’re delighted to have him at the Brandywell

“You only have to look at Liam’s record in England and Scotland over the last ten years, to see the quality that he brings. He’s a proven goalscorer and a great addition for us.

“We’re looking forward to our training camp next week and it’ll be an ideal opportunity for Liam to get to know the rest of the boys ahead of the new season.”

Boyce will have to wait for his Derry City debut, with Saturday’s planned friendly against Finn Harps falling victim to frost at the Ballbofey venue.
