A Leicestershire council has issued a warning over fraudlent parking fines after it revealed fake penalty charge notices (PCNs) had been slapped on cars. The warning from Queniborough Parish Council comes after the PCNs were found near Rearsby Road Playing Fields.
The handwritten notes order drivers to cough up £20. However, Queniborough Parish Council have issued an urgent alert after learning of the suspicious notices being handed out to motorists. The council confirmed it does not issue any form of PCN and warned residents the demands are “certainly a scam”.
The fake fines claim to be for “obstructing gateway” and instruct people to make payment to the parish council office by January 1, 2025. Officials say any notices demanding payment should be reported immediately.

The parish clerk, Rachel Barlow-Skinner, urged residents to be vigilant about the suspicious notices. She said: “If you have been issued any type of notice/demand about a parking charge purporting to be from the Parish Council it is certainly a scam.”
The council has asked anyone who receives a notice demanding £20 payment to report it to the parish office. Residents are also being encouraged to report any suspicious contact about parking fines to the police.
