Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt agrees to join Hull City ahead of Millwall clash

Striker Joe Gelhardt will undergo a medical on Monday before signing his loan deal at Hull City and is in line to make his debut at Millwall on Saturday.

Gelhardt is scheduled to have his medical in London on Monday morning before travelling to Hull to meet the rest of his teammates on Tuesday and go through his media commitments after training.

The 22-year-old’s arrival will come as a boost to Ruben Selles, who watched his side pass up a host of good chances in Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to League Two Doncaster Rovers, going out on penalties.

City have pushed hard for the Liverpool-born attacker, beating off competition from other Championship clubs to sign the ex-Wigan Athletic man until the end of the season, though there is no loan-to-buy option in the deal.

After watching City’s pulsating 3-3 draw with Leeds last Saturday from the bench, the frontman, who scored his first Whites goal against City back in 2020, made it clear he wanted to link up with Selles – and he could yet start at The Den, joining fellow new arrival Matt Crooks in the squad, after his move from MLS side Real Salt Lake was confirmed last week.

The Tigers are also expecting to have at least one other new arrival in their ranks heading to London on Friday afternoon, with an experienced Championship winger on the cusp of joining. City are keen to remain tight-lipped about the player’s identity for fear of alerting other clubs, but feel he would be a really positive addition and believe a deal is almost done.

That arrival would be permanent after striking a deal with the selling club, and they continue to hunt other new arrivals both defensively and further forward.

Louie Barry remains a firm target, but City are waiting on a decision from the player, and Aston Villa, about where he will spend the remainder of the Championship season.

It’s also expected Anthony Racioppi and Chris Bedia will move on after being told by Selles that neither are in his plans moving forward.
