Leeds car wash statement over suspected ‘acid attack’

A Leeds car wash has issued a statement saying staff were attacked with a ‘corrosive substance suspected to be acid’ after pictures showed it cordoned off on Saturday night.

There was a large police presence plus ambulances at The Car Wash on North Street in Sheepscar. Passing members of the public spotted the cars around 7pm on Saturday night (January 11).

All entry points and exit points were sealed off with a police tape as officers patrol the area. It was unclear what had happened but The Car Wash has now issued a statement on social media.

In the statement they said: “Around 6pm today, members of staff were subjected to an unprovoked attack by a member of the public. The assailant was armed with substance suspected to be acid.

“Thanks to the quick actions of our staff the situation was swiftly brought under control, and emergency services were contacted immediately. One staff member sustained minor burns to his face and treated by paramedics.

“We would like to emphasize that the safety and well-being of our staff and customers remain our highest priority. This isolated incident is being investigated by police, The individual was detained by management and handed over to the police who attended very swiftly.

“We ask the public to refrain from spreading misinformation about this incident. We would like to thank the police for the swift response.

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

West Yorkshire Police has been approached for comment.
