There are nine flood alerts and warnings in place across Cambridgeshire after recent heavy rain. There are nearly 500 flood alerts and warnings in place across the UK toady (January 7), according to the Environment Agency.
The agency said flooding is ‘possible’ in areas across Cambridgeshire after heavy rain and snowmelt in places. “Properties may flood, and there may be travel disruption,” it said.
There is one flood warning in Cambridgeshire, meaning flooding is ‘expected’ in that area and residents should act now. The warning is in effect on North Bank Road along the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.
The warning said: “Heavy rain has fallen in the Peterborough area which has caused levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions.”
The road will be closed while the flood warning is in force, with diversions in place. The Environment Agency said: “Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
