An Irish model and social media influencer who grew up in Galway but relocated to Los Angeles has shared her heartbreak after the tragic destruction of part of the city due to wildfires this week.
Shahira Barry moved to the famous city several years ago and while wild fires aren’t uncommon in southern California, this week’s blaze have gone down as the worst in the history of America’s west coast.
The death toll has risen to 10, while 180,000 people have been evacuated from neighbourhoods on the edge of L.A and entire swathes of land in the tens of thousands of acres have been reduced to ash.
Shahira captioned a video of the destruction, posted by former First Lady of California Maria Shriver: “I cannot fathom what I am seeing”.

The fire in the wealthy Pacific Palisades area of L.A has already been deemed the worst in the city’s history, with over 30,000 acres destroyed.
Shahira shared Shriver’s post outlining how devastated L.A was by the disaster. “Heartbreaking, devastating, beyond belief,” the ex-wife of former California governor Arnold Schwarzengger wrote.
“Everything is gone. Our neighborhood, our restaurants. All our friends have lost everything. We have evacuated, but are safe. But people have lost everything.”
“The firefighters have and are doing their best, but this fire is massive and out of control, and now there are multiple fires burning across Los Angeles. We in this city will put our arms around one another.

“We will rise, but right now these fires continue to burn. People need to stay safe, stay out of harm’s way, and allow firefighters to do what they can to help those who need immediate assistance.”
The video shows an area of the city which has been left looking like a warzone, with just the shells of buildings remaining and smoke still lingering in the air.
Just down the road from one remaining brick wall, an entire building is left collapsed in a pile of charred rubble which has spilled out onto the footpath.
