Kent Aldi branch to close for two months starting this week for expansion plans

A Kent town will see its Aldi branch closed for two months, starting from this weekend. The budget supermarket in East Street, Sittingbourne will shut its doors from 4pm on Sunday, January 12.

This is to allow for the long-awaited expansion of the 20-year-old store to begin. A spokesperson for Aldi told KentLive: “Our Sittingbourne store will temporarily close while we extend the store to provide more space for our customers to shop and we will continue to update the community on our progress.”

Preparations for the works began last June after the plans were approved by Swale Borough Council in May 2024. The Aldi branch will re-open at 8am on Thursday, March 13.

In the interim, customers will need to use the next nearest Aldi stores which can be found in Faversham and Queenborough. Once the project is completed, the supermarket will feature an additional 27 parking spaces alongside the expanded store space.

A notice announcing the two month closure in the window of the East Street store added: “We apologise for any inconvenience.” Aldi operates several other Kent branches including in Gillingham, Chatham, Strood and Whitstable.
