Kellogg’s cockerel turned into UK’s largest-ever weathervane

A gigantic 21ft-tall weathervane modelled after the beloved Kellogg’s cockerel has taken pride of place at the UK’s most easterly point, Ness Point in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Measuring 11ft-wide, this stunning tribute to the iconic breakfast mascot Cornelius is the nation’s largest-ever weathervane.

The brainchild of skilled sculptors and engineers who worked on it for two months, the colossal steel cockerel boasts a hand-painted finish, injecting life into his endearing personality.

This temporary showpiece is set to stay put until Thursday 17, marking a milestone in Cornelius’s colourful history – a fabulous new look for the TV screens.

This grand installation is an extension of a new study, where 2,000 British adults shared their love for discussing the weather – approximately 9 minutes a day or 146 days of their lives.

Speaking about the project, Kellogg’s vice president, Jenn Carkner explained: “We are launching a campaign to celebrate the uniqueness of mornings”.

She continued: “What better way to welcome a brand-new day than with a totally unique and show-stopping weathervane, topped by our legendary mascot Cornelius in all his glory.”

As Cornelius, now 67 years old, nears seven decades on the iconic Corn Flakes boxes since 1958, fans and enthusiasts alike can marvel at the hand-carved masterpiece mirroring the much-loved breakfast companion.

Further research has revealed mornings as the peak times when the UK loves to indulge in a nice little natter about the day’s forecast.

The weather is also the hot topic at breakfast tables, with a quarter of Brits enjoying discussing it over the first meal of the day.
