A towering 21ft-tall weathervane, modelled after the iconic Kellogg’s cockerel, has been unveiled at Ness Point in Lowestoft, Suffolk – the UK’s most easterly point.
The colossal steel cockerel, which measures 11ft-wide, is a tribute to the beloved breakfast mascot Cornelius and is the largest-ever weathervane in the nation.
Crafted by skilled sculptors and engineers over two months, the hand-painted finish brings the endearing personality of Cornelius to life. This temporary installation will remain until today, marking a milestone in Cornelius’s colourful history.
The grand installation coincides with a new study revealing that British adults spend approximately nine minutes a day, or 146 days of their lives, discussing the weather.

Speaking about the project, Kellogg’s vice president, Jenn Carkner said: “We are launching a campaign to celebrate the uniqueness of mornings”.
She added: “What better way to welcome a brand-new day than with a totally unique and show-stopping weathervane, topped by our legendary mascot Cornelius in all his glory.”
As Cornelius approaches seven decades on the iconic Corn Flakes boxes, fans can marvel at the hand-carved masterpiece that mirrors their much-loved breakfast companion.
Further research revealed that mornings are the peak times when the UK loves to chat about the day’s forecast. The weather is also a popular topic of conversation at breakfast tables across the UK, with one in four Brits enjoying discussing it over their morning meal.
