Kate Middleton and Prince William make statement amid ‘Christmas coup’ fears as they back down

Prince William and Princess Kate have made a huge statement about their loyalty to King Charles as a planned ‘Christmas coup’ failed to materialise. Pals had claimed the pair were planning to highlight their ‘alternative Christmas’ this year as they look to modernise the monarchy.

And one had hinted at a ‘full blown coup’ if they posted pictures on social media of them enjoying family time at their Anmer Hall property at Sandringham. But nothing has appeared on their social media accounts suggesting they have chosen to show reverence to the monarch at the end of a trying year.

Kate especially is known to favour a more “middle class” Christmas, one she will have recognised from her youth. Known to hate the royal tradition of swapping presents on Christmas Eve, she is determined to give her young children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, a more family-orientated and informal experience.

They will have spent time with Kate’s parents Carole and Michael on Christmas Day. But there has been no snapshot from within their household.

Sources had suggested Kate and King Charles were on a Christmas collision course with William happy to back his wife’s wish for a more ‘normal’ Christmas. Pals insist they have always held a “covert” alternative Christmas at Anmer Hall and one told the Daily Beast earlier this year: “…it’s going to be much more obvious this year. If they post pictures, it’ll be an official coup attempt.”

Another source told the same publication: “A little social media of the family eating chocolate and watching TV would be a very effective way of showing how normal Christmas is at Anmer Hall compared to what we hear about at Sandringham.”

But it seems, for 2024 at least, William and Kate have decided on a show of unity, especially after such a tough year. Kate’s cancer diagnosis left them stunned in January and they than had to endure nasty rumours online about his condition and the state of their marriage.

The King has also been undergoing cancer treatment, something that will pose questions about his workload. William decided to put family first in 2024 but may come under pressure in 2025 to step up in terms of royal duties if his father faces health issues.
