Cruise ship star Jane McDonald has opened up about her experiences following a significant personal loss. The 61-year-old singer suffered a heartbreaking blow when her fianceĢ, Eddie Rothe, passed away from cancer in 2021.
In a candid discussion with Hello! magazine, which was released in conjunction with her new books, Jane revealed how she is coping with the sadness. She said: “You have to rebuild and I was very grateful that I had another life besides Ed. My career was still going on and my friends were there.”
However, Jane said it has been far from easy, reports the Express. She said: “I’ve learnt nothing really, there’s no way of dealing with it. “You just have to rebuild [your life] in the best way you can. For me, that’s going out and seeing my fans again and saying to those who have gone through the same as me, I know what you’re feeling.”

Jane and Eddie had been together for more than a decade and had been engaged but did not tie the knot. Previously, Jane expressed happiness with her life, but made clear that a man is not a necessity for her happiness. She also opened up on her love of cruising – and has not intentions of stopping going to sea.
Asked by the Telegraph if she grows tired or fed up with cruising, she said: “Honestly, lovey, no. Even if I’m recording a show, as soon as I shut me front door that’s me on me holidays, you know?
“In fact, that’s the one thing I say to everybody: don’t take your problems on holiday. You saved a lot of money to go away, so why not have a bloody good time?”
