Jamie Carragher makes big Conor Bradley call as Liverpool teammate hits headlines

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance against Manchester United grabbed many headlines at the weekend, and not for positive reasons. The Liverpool defender was noticeably underpar in the 2-2 draw at Anfield.

What added to the scrutiny was that the abject display came just days after Real Madrid tabled a £20m bid for the England international.

Roy Keane claimed Alexander-Arnold’s defending was more Tranmere Rovers than Real Madrid, leaving Arne Slot with a decision on his hands ahead of this week’s Carabao Cup semi-final with Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Anfield star Jamie Carragher believes Alexander-Arnold is at risk of getting the axe by Slot, but believes there is a ready-made replacement ready to step in.

Northern Ireland defender Conor Bradley came on for Alexander-Arnold on Sunday and made an instant impression.

Bradley enjoyed a breakthrough season last year when he deputised for the injured Alexander-Arnold, and Carragher believes the young Tyrone native is more than ready to step in once again.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Carragher said: “With Conor Bradley now coming back, I think if Trent puts in another performance like that, I think the manager will put Conor Bradley back in.”

He added: “Conor Bradley – the first time I think Garnacho ran at him – he tried to go around him and Conor Bradley put a big, strong tackle in. It went out for a corner, okay. Manchester United were happy to get a corner, but you could feel it.

“He wants to put the tackle in. He wants to block the cross…I know he [Trent] is that type of player. I get that.

“I can’t believe he was like that today, on the back of what happened with the Real Madrid…I was actually thinking Trent is going to come here and put in a big performance to say ‘this is why Real Madrid want me.'”
