Former Hull FC full-back Jack Walker has cleared up why he left Hull KR at the end of the 2023 season, with his move to the Black and Whites confirmed soon after.
Walker was on loan at Rovers in the second half of 2023, but he wasn’t offered a new deal with the east Hull club signing Niall Evalds and Peta Hiku. Instead, he signed for Hull on a two-year deal from 2024. However, that deal was cut short by a year back in November, with Walker released along with Morgan Smith and Liam Tindall.
The 25-year-old is now looking for a new club, with Walker training throughout pre-season, keeping up his fitness. Keen to earn a deal, the player has been posting his progress on social media. Responding on TikTok to a comment from a Rovers fan stating Walker should have stayed at Craven Park, he said: “So I’ve seen this comment a couple of times and Hull KR never offered me a deal.
“I’m pretty sure they had their team sorted before I even joined the club, which wasn’t a problem. What Hull KR did for me was enable me to play Super League and put my face in the shop window for other clubs to come in and potentially get a deal for the following year for myself at another club.
“I played well and managed to get a deal at Hull FC, so it wasn’t like I was choosing one over the other; Hull KR didn’t offer me a deal and Hull FC offered me a deal.”
Walker, who won the Super League Grand Final while at Leeds Rhinos, also posted on TikTok that he is still to find a new club for 2025, with the full-back conceding it may take an injury to a player before he can secure a move. He played 14 times for Hull last year and has over 100 career appearances to date.
