ITV I’m A Celeb star stopped at Scottish airport after ‘security mistake’

I’m A Celebrity star Rev. Richard Coles found himself in a sticky situation at a Scottish island airport when his black pudding was mistaken for a bomb.

The celebrity had been visiting the Outer Hebrides and was heading to Stornoway on January 3, intending to visit a local church. However, the 62 year old’s souvenir black pudding was flagged as a potential explosive by a security scanner.

Sharing the amusing incident on social media, he quipped: “Want to trigger an emergency response going through Lewis security? Simply purchase some black pudding from the Isle of Stornoway , which looks to the scanner like Semtex. Tastes MUCH nicer.”

During his New Year’s trip to Scotland, he revealed that he had sampled some of the renowned cuisine the isle of Lewis has to offer – including falling in love with a Stornoway black pudding. He also visited the historic Teampall Mholuaidh church at the island’s most northerly point.

A spokesperson for Highlands and Islands Airports Limited said: “We were pleased to welcome the Reverend Richard Coles to Stornoway Airport. It’s great that he is such a huge fan of one of the region’s delicacies. We hope to see him back on the Isle of Lewis soon.”, reports the Daily Record.

The Anglican priest, who appeared on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

last year, gained a cult following among viewers. Despite not winning the show, he formed an unlikely friendship with Loose Women star Grace ‘GK’ Barry.

The on-screen chemistry between GK and Richard had Gogglebox fans in stitches, with many clamouring for the pair to get their own spin-off. Richard’s guest appearance alongside GK on ‘Loose Women’ last year only increased fans’ excitement.

While it seems the duo might be collaborating on a new venture, there’s a vocal crowd urging them to feature on ‘Celebrity Gogglebox’. One fan enthused: “Your friendship with Richard was so sweet. You two definitely need to be on Celebrity Gogglebox. Please put him on your podcast.”

Another pleaded: “You and the Rev need to go on gogglebox”, and a supportive follower stated: “Grace gave us some of the best conversations with Richard, I need a celeb gogglebox episode with them two as soon as I’m going to miss them.”

Richard Coles enjoyed his visit to the island.

Richard spent the start of 2025 on Lewis.
