ITV Coronation Street’s Carla Connor’s exit ‘sealed’ after hospital health diagnosis

Coronation Street’s Carla Connor, portrayed by Markfield’s Alison King, received some disturbing news in Wednesday’s episode (January 1) that has left viewers fearing she may exit the drama. The beloved character appeared to be grappling with her health, experiencing what seemed to be hallucinations similar to those she suffered after Rana Habeeb’s death.

Carla’s traumatic past resurfaced as years later, Stephen Reid drugged her with LSD to manipulate her into having visions so he could usurp her business and embezzle company funds, reports the Mirror. Wednesday’s harrowing scenes saw Carla collapse in her apartment and swiftly taken to hospital, where she faced a grim health prognosis due to an earlier attack by Mason’s siblings.

The doctor informed her, “From what you described, it sounds like it could possibly be sepsis. We’ll let you know as soon as we can,” triggering Roy’s concern about Carla’s solitary kidney—which became even more pressing given Carla’s history of kidney failure. In 2018, Carla had a lifesaving transplant from her half-brother Aidan Connor, but this recent infection placed her remaining kidney at risk.

Audiences have been inundated with worry for Carla’s wellbeing, as one fan posted: “Would make a nice change if they’d just let Carla have a happy relationship… #Corrie.” A second said: “The way Carla thinks Lisa is going to run a mile because she is poorly #corrie.”

In heart-wrenching scenes, Carla made a significant decision about her relationship with DS Lisa Swain. Despite their strong bond, Carla feared losing Lisa, who had previously lost her wife Becky, and chose to end their relationship.

In yesterday’s emotional episode, Carla admitted her growing feelings for Lisa. played by Vicky Myers. Vicky commented on the scene, saying: “It absolutely floors Lisa. She’s just come in from work and goes to the Rovers to ring in the New Year.

“It takes her by surprise and she doesn’t return the sentiment. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel the same way, I just think she’s not quite ready. This is a massive step for her.”

Vicky also revealed the challenges of that scene, saying: “It was a challenge to put it lightly! Ali and I knew exactly where it was headed as we shoot so far in advance, but I was delighted as soon as I heard about the relationship. It’s taken Lisa by surprise. She didn’t want to trust her feelings, but there’s definitely longevity there.”
