It’s still freezing out there – when it will become warmer for Hull and East Yorkshire

Frost, icicles hanging from gutters and iced-over birdbaths have become the norm in the past few days, with everyone piling on the layers, turning up the thermostat and wondering when the big freeze will pass.

Today (Saturday, January 11), although sunny in some places, is continuing to be a cold one in the Hull and East Yorkshire area, says the Met Office, with temperatures climbing no higher than 3C during the afternoon, although this will still feel closer to 1C. Tonight, it is set to dip away again to -2C.

Sunday is expected to dawn misty but changing to sunny by late morning. Again thermometers will be hovering around highs of 3C at best but still feeling closer to zero.

On Monday, things will start to pick up a little with the day’s maximum temperature forecast to be around 6C and conditions partly cloudy, changing to sunny intervals by late morning. The temperatures will also stay above freezing for a change, overnight, with only a shift down a degree or so from the daytime.

Tuesday is when we can expect to see the weather warming up a little more, with a cloudy day in store and highs of around 10C. The pattern is to continue through Wednesday and Thursday, with another little climb in the day’s best temperature on Friday to the heady heights of 11C.

The Met Office said the general picture today was “cold with sunny spells”. Some fog is also being stubborn to clear and there will be a “widespread frost developing beneath clear skies” tonight.
