The Irish Cancer Society is making an urgent call for volunteer Community Organisers to bring Daffodil Day to Donaghmede and Finglas on March 28, 2025. The charity is on the hunt for individuals with strong local connections and a wide network who would be willing to coordinate fundraising activities on the day.
Daffodil Day will see people across the nation take to the streets to sell daffodils and shake buckets in a bid to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society, offering hope to cancer patients and their families. It’s estimated that over 10,000 people across Ireland volunteer each year to support Daffodil Day in their community.
The success of local Daffodil Day street sales relies heavily on the recruitment, coordination, and management of these volunteers by local organisers. With only 5% of its income coming from the Government, the society relies on the generosity of our amazing donors, fundraisers, and volunteers to provide services and support, ensuring no one in Ireland has to face cancer alone.
The public’s generous donations on the day will fund cancer research and support services for people around the county affected by cancer. The funds raised will help to deliver free information, support, and care to people affected by cancer across Ireland.
Community Organiser Siobhan Connaghan said: “We have an amazing group of volunteers who are always eager to support Daffodil Day. They show up with smiles on their faces, regardless of the weather, and spend a little time chatting or listening to stories.”
Discussing the impact of these efforts, she added, “Cancer impacts so many people, so knowing this small act of giving my time to support Daffodil Day and the services the Irish Cancer Society provides can make a significant difference to someone on a cancer journey in our community, makes it very worthwhile. I feel privileged to be part of Daffodil Day and to contribute to such a great cause, even in my small way.”
Meanwhile, Mary Quinn, the Irish Cancer Society Volunteer Manager, put out a call for community volunteers “We want people to get involved and take a lead in organising fundraising activities for Daffodil Day in March 2025 in their local community with their own team of volunteers, family, and friends,” she said. “We are open to all applications we receive but are particularly interested in setting up Daffodil Day activities in Donaghmede and Finglas.”
Volunteers hoping to get involved should head to the society’s website and anyone with cancer-related queries is encouraged to contact the Irish Cancer Society Support Line via Freephone at 1800 200 700 or email supportline@irishcancer.ie.
