With the price of petrol and diesel continuing to rise, what could be the country’s cheapest petrol station may have been revealed.
Motorists across the country saw petrol and diesel prices by two cents on January 1 after the increase was announced in the budget in October.
The four recent rises in prices have been estimated by Fuels for Ireland to have added as much as 15 cents to the cost of a litre of petrol. It’s also added approximately 12 cents to the cost of a litre of Diesel.
The average cost of a litre of petrol currently stands at €1.71 while a litre of Diesel costs €1.74 in the lead-up to Christmas.
So, every little bit of saving motorists can have when it comes to fuel should be grabbed with both hands.

Now, one driver may have just found the holy grail of petrol stations with petrol as much as 20 cents cheaper per litre than most stations.
The petrol station in question is a GO station but you’ll have to drive a fair way to take advantage of the low prices.
That’s because it’s located in Blacklion, Co Cavan. A litre of Unleaded costs €1.57, a litre of Diesel is slightly cheaper at €1.54 and green diesel is the cheapest at €1.09.
Posting in the Facebook group, Cheapest Fuel Prices Sligo, one happy customer confirmed the station’s locations and said that the prices for diesel are almost 20 cents cheaper.
He said: “Blacklion county Cavan Monday 13th January, almost 20cent per litre for diesel less than anywhere around Sligo or Leitrim.”
