The Christmas and New Year celebrations may still be fresh in our minds, but many people across Ireland are already looking ahead to their next chance to enjoy a long weekend.
Ireland’s bank holiday schedule for 2025 is a key reference for anyone planning trips, family time or a well-deserved break.
There are 10 bank holidays in total this year and the vast majority of employees are entitled to paid leave for them under the Organisation of Working Time Act. Most businesses and schools close, while other services like public transport still operate but often have restricted schedules.
Having already observed New Year’s Day on January 1, the next one on the horizon is just weeks away.
Since 2023, there has been a new annual bank holiday in early February to mark St Brigid’s Day. It’s held on the first Monday of February every year, except where St Brigid’s Day happens to fall on a Friday, in which case that Friday, February 1 will be a public holiday. Therefore, Ireland’s next bank holiday of 2025 will take place in just three weeks, on Monday, February 3.
After that, we won’t have long to wait for another, which will be St Patrick’s Day on Monday, March 17.
Here’s a full list of Ireland’s remaining bank holidays for the year:
- Monday, February 3 – St Brigid’s Day
- Monday, March 17 – St Patrick’s Day
- Monday, April 21 – Easter Monday
- Monday, May 5 – May Bank Holiday
- Monday, June 2 – June Bank Holiday
- Monday, August 4 – August Bank Holiday
- Monday, October 27 – October Bank Holiday
- Thursday, December 25 – Christmas Day
- Friday, December 26 – St Stephen’s Day
Some savvy planners could take advantage of the bank holidays for St Brigid’s Day and St Patrick’s Day. There is the potential to get a generous 18 days off work using only nine days of annual leave.
The St Brigid’s Day bank holiday falls on Monday, February 3. Therefore you could use four days of annual leave on February 4, 5, 6 and 7 to get nine days off work.
St Patrick’s Day is on Monday, March 17. Once again, you could book four days of annual leave on March 18, 19, 20 and 21 to end up with nine days off work.
