Injury update after A417 crash causes delays near Air Balloon roundabout

A crash involving two cars on a steep stretch of the A417 in Gloucestershire has seen one person taken to hospital. The collision happened on the Crickley Hill stretch and caused delays between the Air Balloon roundabout and the A46 junction at Brockworth.

The downhill westbound section was blocked for a while but has since reopened. Delays remain and there is queuing traffic in the area.

Gloucestershire Police said: “Police were called to a two vehicle collision on the A417 at Crickley Hill at around 10.50am today, Wednesday 15 January. It is not believed anybody was seriously injured but one person has been taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to be assessed.

“The road is open but motorists are advised to find alternative routes due to a build up of traffic.”

Following the crash, there was an oil spillage on the motorway. Congestion was back to the turning for the golf course. Traffic coming towards the Air Balloon roundabout from all directions was affected.

National Highways said “Traffic has been released on the A417 in Gloucestershire westbound between the A46 Brockworth and the A436 Birdlip following a collision which had resulted in a spillage. Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey.”

The latest from traffic and travel site Inrix says: “Queueing traffic due to earlier accident on A417 Westbound from A436 (Air Balloon Roundabout, Birdlip) to A46 Shurdington Road (Brockworth).”
